A British father and son have reportedly died after drowning while swimming at a popular tourist beach in Australia.
Three people were reportedly swept out to sea on Sunday afternoon at Round Hill Head in Seventeen Seventy, Queensland, sparking a major emergency service response with a CapRescue helicopter deployed.
A 46-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy were retrieved from the water but declared dead, police said.
A third man, a 37-year-old from Monto, Queensland, was rescued and airlifted to Bundaberg Hospital for treatment.
‘Sunday’s mission was a difficult one,’ CapRescue said on their social media.
‘Despite the best efforts of all involved, two people tragically lost their lives.
‘Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this heartbreaking incident.’
Police confirmed the pair were visiting from the UK and said a report would be prepared for the coroner, as per the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), while 7News reported they were father and son.
Local media reported the duo had been visiting the area while on holiday from Wales.

Police divers have joined the search at Tinaroo Dam in Yungaburra after authorities were called to the dam at 3.30pm on Sunday.
The children made it safely to shore.
Water police, a rescue helicopter, swift water crews and on-foot police are all part of the operation that resumed on Monday morning.
Support services have been offered to the man’s family, police said.
