Patrick Mahomes gave the Kansas City Chiefs a huge scare on Monday night after jarring his left ankle in their game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
With the Chiefs trailing 17-10 early in the fourth quarter, Mahomes evaded pressure in the pocket and darted forward before stopping to flip the ball to Samaje Perine in the end zone.
Yet as he slowed down to pick out Perine for the touchdown, the Kansas City quarterback’s left leg appeared to buckle awkwardly, leaving him in clear discomfort.
As the hosts celebrated drawing level in the game, their star man had to be helped off the field by team staff in worrying scenes.
The sight of Mahomes hobbling onto the sidelines was nightmare stuff for the Chiefs as they seek an unprecedented Super Bowl ‘three-peat’ this season.
Though despite jarring his left ankle, he was able to quickly return to the field and play through the pain barrier without missing an offensive snap.
Mahomes went on to produce his third touchdown pass of the game to edge Kansas City ahead with just over four minutes to play.
