A Sydney bakery has claimed the coveted title of ‘Best Finger Bun in Australia’ for their viral pink-iced buns.
Humble Bakery in Surry Hills beat out the rest of the country in Wotif’s 2024 Uniquely Australian Awards for their fruit laced buns with the iconic squiggly pink icing and a thick slab of butter tucked inside ($7.50).
The pastry destination regularly sells out of the ‘divine’ buns and after news of their sweet win – this weekend should be no exception.
From the team behind dining hot-spots Porteno and Bastardo, Humble Bakery made their name with the retro-treat that is an elevated version of the childhood bake-house classic.
Co-owner Ben Milgate spoke to FEMAIL about how the best finger bun in Australia was designed to be a fresh take on the ‘nostalgic joy’ evoked by the dessert.
‘But the taste is what keeps people coming back, it’s the combination of our soft, sweet milk dough and that generous slab of butter that makes them irresistible.’
The wildly popular treats were an instant hit with Sydneysiders – and the largest single order ever placed was for 1,000 of the Insta-famous bright pink buns.
Mr Milgate said the quality of the ingredients – which have no preservatives whatsoever – makes Humble’s finger buns a cut above the rest.

Humble Bakery also makes a famous carrot cake, assorted pastries and ‘intense’ Italian sandwiches that locals can’t get enough of
‘Our frosting is made with cream cheese, unlike most finger buns that use Boston icing. And of course, they’re made fresh daily.’
The head baker recalls one customer who bought six finger buns for his staff but couldn’t resist eating them all himself before making it back to the office.
The buns are available in individual serves and as a ‘fun’ finger bun cake that serves nine people for $85.
Those racing to Surry Hills to sample the best bun in Australia might want to try Ben’s hack: ‘Flip the top of the bun over so the frosting is on the inside with the butter. Why? Because it keeps the frosting from getting on your face.’
Fans of the ‘perfect’ buns weren’t surprised to hear that Humble Bakery had beat out the rest of Australia.
