It’s something that most people do at least once a day without thinking twice about it.
But it turns out you’ve probably been showering wrong this entire time.
Experts from Original Source have revealed the correct order to wash your body – and say that a whopping 86 per cent of us have been getting it mixed up.
According to the shower gel brand, your hair should be the first thing you wash – with shampoo first, followed by conditioner.
It’s only after your hair has been tackled that you should move on to your body, according to the experts.
While this might sound minor, it could make a huge difference.
‘Doing so allows the hair to be cleaned, and any residual product or oils to be washed away, before the shower gel is applied to the body,’ Original Source explained.
‘Otherwise, there’s a danger of skin irritation, caused by the buildup of various products lingering on your skin.’

For the survey, Original Source asked 2,000 Brits about their shower habits.
The results revealed that 44 per cent of Brits apply shower gel before shampoo and conditioner, while seven per cent go for shower gel, then conditioner, then shampoo.
Twenty-two per cent almost get it right, opting for shampoo, then shower gel, then conditioner.
Meanwhile, eight per cent reach for the conditioner, then shampoo, then conditioner, and five per cent go for conditioner, then shower gel, then shampoo.
This leaves just 14 per cent who get the right order – shampoo, then conditioner, then shower gel.
Alice Plimmer, Refreshment Lead at Original Source said: ‘There’s so much more to a shower than getting yourself as clean as possible.
‘If you want to kick start your morning, turning the shower into a full sensory refreshment experience, and one free from any distractions, is vital.
‘If you want to get a real morning boost and kick start your morning, using a shower gel with 100% natural fragrance is the answer.’

The survey comes shortly after a study from the University of Surrey revealed the length of the average shower in the UK.
The water consumption in 290 showers of students from the University of Surrey was covertly monitored for 39 weeks using Aguardio sensors.
An analysis of the results revealed that the average shower lasted 6.7 minutes, while 50 per cent fell between 3.3 and 8.8 minutes.
However, the researchers point out that this length is likely longer amongst the general public.
‘I’m going to suggest that these Surrey students have generally shorter showers than many people,’ Professor Walker tweeted.
‘Last time we measured showers in the UK public we found an average of 10.8 minutes.’
