‘He was refused bail to appear in Parramatta Local Court today.’
The 41-year-old was charged with assault in February after he allegedly assaulted his wife outside a licensed venue in Sydney.
Merritt, who shares multiple children with his partner Faith Phillips, was also involved in an affray with security guards outside the venue.
The footy veteran was granted bail in February – but following his latest incident he is now charged with breaching bail conditions.
Merritt was rushed to hospital in 2023 and placed on life support after he was found unconscious in his aunt’s home.
He had claimed he had come down with a double bout of pneumonia and added he was ‘lucky to be alive’ after being placed in a coma.
The terrifying medical episode is believed to have been triggered by an adverse reaction to prescribed painkillers.
The former Rabbitohs star subsequently made a full recovery following the illness.
