Love a great burger? You’re not alone—and you might be in luck. Several beloved regional burger chains are stepping up their game, expanding beyond their home turf, and bringing their signature flavors to new markets across the U.S. From coast-to-coast cult favorites to lesser-known local gems, here are seven regional burger joints on the rise that you’re bound to see everywhere soon.
Whataburger

A Texas-born favorite, Whataburger is making major moves across the South. Known for its hefty burgers and signature sauces, the chain is expanding in Alabama with new spots in Jasper, Gadsden, and Owens Cross Roads.

It’s also entering North Carolina for the first time, and setting up shop in East Tennessee, with locations planned for Chattanooga and Knoxville by 2025.
In-N-Out Burger

The West Coast’s iconic burger spot is taking its first big leap east. With locations already across 10 states including California, Texas, and Colorado, In-N-Out is now setting its sights on Tennessee.

The company is even moving its corporate headquarters to the state. Nashville will welcome the first Tennessee location, followed by expansions into Chattanooga and Knoxville in the near future.
Jack in the Box

After a decades-long absence, Jack in the Box is plotting a major comeback in the Chicago area. The popular 24-hour burger and fast-food joint plans to open as many as 10 locations in the region over the next two years.

Suburbs like Countryside, Naperville, and Tinley Park are already slated for openings, with drive-thru, dine-in, and mobile order options available.
7th Street Burger

If you’re a fan of no-frills, bold-flavored smash burgers, 7th Street Burger is one to watch. Starting out in NYC, the brand has made its way to Washington, D.C., and will launch its first Philadelphia location in Fishtown this summer.

The expansion doesn’t stop there—Baltimore and Boston are also on the horizon, bringing the East Coast smash burger scene to more hungry burger lovers.
Roy Rogers

This Mid-Atlantic mainstay is making strategic moves to grow its footprint. Roy Rogers, which currently operates 40 locations across six states, is targeting Southern New Jersey with a new restaurant in Cherry Hill this spring.

Additional restaurants are also slated for Alexandria, Virginia (three locations), and four more in suburban Maryland. Roy Rogers is betting on both nostalgia and strong quality to fuel its comeback.
Culver’s

A beloved name in the Midwest, Culver’s is known for its ButterBurgers and creamy frozen custard. The Wisconsin-based chain is in full growth mode, with plans to open 51 new locations across a dozen states, including Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Ohio, and both Carolinas.

With its focus on hospitality, fresh food, and community, Culver’s is poised to charm new audiences across the country. If you haven’t tried it yet, there may be one near you very soon.
Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers

With over 550 locations across 36 states, Freddy’s is no stranger to expansion—but it’s not slowing down. The brand recently announced three major development agreements that will bring 15 new restaurants to Nebraska, North Dakota, and Maryland, introducing more diners to its signature steakburgers and frozen custard.

The company’s steady, disciplined growth strategy and consistent product quality have helped it succeed in markets large and small—making it one of the most exciting burger chains to watch.
