- Sonny Bill Williams posed for a snap with UFC star Alexander Volkanovski
- It comes as the Kiwi star prepares for his much-anticipated fight with Paul Gallen
Rugby great Sonny Bill Williams posed for a snap with Aussie UFC star Alexander Volkanovski on Instagram on Wednesday afternoon and revealed who he thinks would win in a fight.
The former New Zealand All Blacks star’s war of words with NRL legend Paul Gallen has escalated in recent weeks after the pair finally agreed to settle their differences inside the ropes.
Gallen had called Williams a ‘fraud’ before the Kiwi fighter lashed back, stating that the league pundit had been acting ‘suspiciously’, as the pair finally firmed up a 50-50 split deal to meet in the ring.
The fight is due to be shown live and exclusively on Stan Sport.
But ahead of their bout, Williams appears to have been weighing up his chances against MMA legend, Volkanovski.
Williams, 39, stands at a towering 191cm and weighs around 108kg. Meanwhile, Volkanovski, 36, stands at 168cm and weighs 66kg.

But despite his height and weight advantage, Williams believes he’d ‘definitely’ lose in a fight but revealed the one thing he can do better than the UFC featherweight champion.
‘Good to see you today legend @Alexvolkanovski,’ Williams wrote, publishing a picture of the pair on a story on his Instagram.
‘Definitely can’t beat him in a fight, but I’d have to back myself in cooking a better steak.’
‘What do you guys think?’ the former Sydney Roosters lock added, with several ‘laughing face’ emojis.
It comes as Volkanovski defended his featherweight title by beating Diego Lopes via a unanimous decision at UFC314 at the weekend in front of US President Donald Trump.
Meanwhile, Williams may also be taking a few tips from Volkanovski on how to handle Gallen in the ring, as tensions flare between the two former NRL players.
‘Everyone knows this fight should have happened much earlier, so let’s get it on,’ the Kiwi said in reference to Gallen.
‘He’s always acted like he wanted to fight me but whenever it was about to happen, it never did.

Williams said he has been ‘suspicious’ over Gallen’s recent behaviour, but admits he’s going to ‘give him a good hiding’

‘Years ago his adviser (Peter Mitrevski Jnr) agreed to a deal.
‘He took it back to Gallen, who then reneged on it. That’s a fact.
‘Finally, he’s signed the contract. July 16, see you there. There’s no backing away now.’
Williams added that he is out to get bragging rights and give Gallen a ‘good hiding’.
‘We’re the same age. His hairline is a bit worse than mine, and his face is uglier than mine, but we’re the same age.’
‘I still want bragging rights, I still want to give him a good hiding. He talks too much, I’m going to smash his face.’
