During his warmup, Wescott landed in the sand after an attempt and tripped into the wall, which was only a few feet from the pit in the indoor venue.
Wescott was briefly unconscious per multiple reports before awakening and telling his mother he remembers what happened.
‘He’s like, “Mom, I broke my neck. I can’t move,”‘ Wescott’s aunt, Kim Kilday reportedly said. ‘He knew immediately that it was bad.’
After being transported to a local hospital, it wad confirmed he has broken a vertebra in his neck and two vertebrae pressing on his spinal cord, per a GoFundMe set up by his family.

The GoFundMe has more than $17k raised of its $20,000 goal as of late Friday evening.
Since the accident, Wescott has had multiple surgeries and has been at a rehab facility, where he is making progress. On Friday, his family shared an update on Wescott’s condition.
‘Thursday was our absolute BEST therapy day here!! I can’t even explain how well he did and the improvements today,’ Nicol Wescott said in a page called ‘Dylan’s Journey’.
‘Dylan started the day with playing bocce ball with his recreation therapist. This is the picture I posted. She is introducing him to sports that can be played in wheelchairs and many are Olympic sports. He had fun kicking my butt! They also had him playing the board game “Sorry” using some adaptations to roll the dice. He beat me again!’
A long-term diagnosis for Dylan has not been made available.
