easyJet has just launched its first-ever flights to an exciting island destination that’s often described as the ‘African Caribbean’.
The budget carrier will take British holidaymakers from London Gatwick to Sal, an island in Cape Verde, three times a week.
The flights, which launched last week, depart every Monday, Wednesday and Friday giving tourists the chance to soak up the island’s sun year-round.
easyJet described the new route as a ‘milestone’ as it marks the carrier’s first-ever Sub-Saharan service.
An island country made up of 10 volcanic islands, Cape Verde enjoys average winter temperatures of 31 degrees and is just a six hour flight from the UK.
Cape Verde’s dry season runs from November to May, making British winter the most popular time to visit the island.
TravelSupermarket has described the country as the ‘African Caribbean’ due to its ‘sumptuous beaches’ and ‘laid-back’ lifestyle.
Sal’s top attractions include its gorgeous beaches where it’s possible to see lemon sharks and loggerhead turtles.

Another must-visit is the Pedra Lume Salt Crater where tourists can admire the salt pans and take a wellness dip in the salty water.
easyJet says: ‘Cape Verde flies a little more under the radar than other beach holiday hotspots.
‘But in a six-hour flight, you can be somewhere that feels far-flung and decidedly exotic. In fact, Cape Verde is sometimes likened to a mini Galapagos.’
The best part?
Cape Verde is just one hour behind the UK (two hours during BST) which means holidaymakers won’t need to worry about jetlag on their tropical adventure.
easyJet holidays is also offering packages to Sal with seven-night stays available from just £464 per person.
In Santa Maria, in the south of Sal where many hotels are based, tourists will find a lively music scene and plenty of al fresco restaurants.
Visitors to the island won’t want to miss out on its cuisine, which is a unique blend of African and Portuguese influences.
