With its glorious sunshine and beautiful beaches, plenty of Brits will be heading to Greece for the summer this year.
But holidaymakers have been issued an urgent warning about four potential natural disasters by the Foreign Office.
The FCDO stated: ‘Greece can experience extreme natural phenomena such as earthquakes, wildfires, extreme heat and flash floods.’
It follows some dramatic weather in Greece, with mid-March temperatures reaching record highs of 33.7 degrees Celsius in Crete and 31.4 degrees Celsius in Livadia, followed by a period of snow and frost.
Now heavy rain, thunderstorms and a significant drop in temperature is predicted in the north and northeast of Greece.
The FCDO advised: ‘To be alerted to events near where you are located in Greece, register for alerts from the Greek Government’s Emergency Communication Service.
‘Register for Emergency alerts and follow ‘112 Greece’ on X for official updates. There is a high risk of wildfires from April to October in the summer.
‘Ensure that your mobile phone is registered to receive emergency alerts and be warned of wildfires near your location.
