- Mary Fowler reunited with beau Nathan Cleary this week on her return to Sydney
- She scored during the Matildas’ 2-0 win vs South Korea on Monday evening
Mary Fowler ended her goal drought on Monday night as the Matildas secured a 2-0 victory against South Korea in Newcastle.
Her boyfriend, Nathan Cleary, was in the crowd to watch the Manchester City star strike home a lovely finish from the edge of the six-yard box.
It was the first time the 22-year-old has scored in her last 14 appearances for club and country, despite Fowler having starred for City throughout this season’s Women’s Super League.
With the Aussie forward travelling back home this week to help her side claim back-to-back wins against South Korea, she was able to spend a bit of time hanging out with Penrith playmaker Cleary – who had been in the stands at the Newcastle International Sports Centre on Monday to cheer on his girlfriend.
Cleary and Fowler were pictured enjoying some time away from their respective codes at Redleaf Pool in Sydney‘s Eastern Suburbs.
The pair cuddled and shared a kiss as they couldn’t keep their hands off each other, with Fowler having made the 17,000km trip back home to play for the Matildas.

The pair had also briefly caught up in America in February, with the 22-year-old forward travelling to the West Coast to play in the SheBelieves Cup.
Cleary had also been in the States at the time for the NRL’s Las Vegas Opening Round. His trip down to San Diego to see Fowler was green-lighted by his father and coach, Ivan after he had explained to his dad that catching up with Fowler would ‘make him play better’ ahead of Penrith’s clash against Cronulla.
Fowler has since shared more snaps of her time back in Australia this week, showing her cuddling with her family dog and spending some time in a local park with her sister Louise.
She also published a heartwarming photo of her and the Panthers halfback smiling as they soaked up the Aussie sun in a park. Fowler captioned the post: ‘Grateful’
The Matildas are due to return to action in Australia in just over a month’s time, with the squad set to face off against Argentina on May 30. They’ll first play in Melbourne before completing another friendly against Argentina in Canberra on June 2.
After Monday’s clash, Fowler reflected on her side’s progress over the past year.
‘It’s really promising for us,’ she said.
‘They’re a top team, and at the last Asian Cup, they actually knocked us out. It’s good confidence for us, especially on the back of the SheBelieves Cup. Getting some good results and being consistent in both those games was really important for us.

‘We have to stay humble and take a lot of the learnings out of that game because it still wasn’t the performance that a lot of us know we can perform. But all in all, it was a good camp, and what we needed really.’
Meanwhile, questions have arisen over whether Cleary would ever make the switch to play for a Super League side in order to live closer to Fowler.
It comes as legendary rugby league player Mark Carroll told the NRL star to ‘follow his heart’ and move to the UK to play footy.
‘He will [also] be part of the revived Kangaroo tour at the end of the year, providing he is fit,’ Carroll said in a column piece in The Nightly.
He then pointed to Cleary’s success on the footy field, winning four premierships and three State of Origin series victories.
‘At 27, his legacy in the game is ensured. There’s not much more for him to prove.’
Cleary is contracted to the Panthers until the end of the 2027 season.
