Progressive ‘Squad’ leader Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has just received amazing news should she plan on running for the U.S. Senate.
A shocking new poll has just found that the young progressive icon has loads more support among likely Democratic voters in New York than longtime Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.
Schumer, 74, has been sinking in popularity among Democrats since joining forces with Republicans to vote for a funding measure earlier this year.
Had Schumer and some Democrats not backed the bill the government almost certainly would’ve shut down, leading to a new batch of headaches for the lawmaker who has served New York in the Senate since 1999.
But many Democrats, mainly progressives like AOC, called on Schumer to play hardball with the GOP.
The ‘Squad’ leader and many in the party wanted the Senate minority leader to vote against the funding and force a shutdown in Donald Trump‘s first 100 days, but Schumer backed off.
Now, a new survey from liberal pollster Data for Progress is showing that Schumer may have made the wrong decision should he want to keep his job.
The results found that Ocasio-Cortez, 35, is leading the veteran senator by almost 20 points in a hypothetical head-to-head matchup should they both run in the 2028 New York Senate primary.

The poll found of the 770 likely Democratic voters that 55 percent of voters would support Ocasio-Cortez, 35, in a head-to-head match up in the 2028 New York primary.
Schumer, meanwhile, received a paltry 36 percent. Nine percent were undecided.
The young progressive also raked in a much higher favorability rating, according to the poll.
AOC received a net +59 favorability while Schumer registered a +26 favorability rating.
According to the survey results, likely Democratic voters see AOC twice as favorably.
The only Democrats who received higher favorability marks than AOC were Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., former VP Kamala Harris and Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass.
Schumer was the lawmaker who received the most unfavorable results.
Still, Schumer has already filed paperwork to seek reelection.

AOC, meanwhile, has yet to announce her intentions to run for Senate in three years.
Though that has not stopped the 35-year-old progressive from raising her national profile.
Ocasio-Cortez recently teamed up with Sanders on a nationwide tour touting the progressive agenda.
Their ‘Fighting Oligarchy’ tour had stops in Colorado and Arizona and over 85,000 attended these rallies.

‘In just 5 events, we had over 86,000 join us to stand up to authoritarianism & oligarchy and stop any bill that slashes Medicaid to give billionaires even more tax breaks.’
