In a move that has sent shock waves through the lolly-loving community, Allen’s has finally decided to change the most controversial confection in its iconic Snakes Alive mix.
Sweet-toothed Aussies have spent years turning their nose up at the orange snake, which is widely regarded as the least popular flavour in the bag.
But the biggest scandal came when comedian and self-proclaimed lolly aficionado Tanya Hennessey exposed a shocking truth – the orange snake wasn’t even orange-flavoured at all, it was apricot.
After wide-spread outrage, Allen’s has finally revealed the new flavour: passionfruit.
It will join the roster of strawberry, blackberry, lemon, and pineapple flavours.
A handful of Australians who taste-tested the flavour have ranked it as an equal first alongside the fan favourite strawberry red snake.
The new passionfruit flavoured snake will start rolling out as part of the Allen’s Snakes Alive bag ($5) at supermarkets around the country from mid-April.
The previous distress over the orange snake flavour was labelled ‘distressing’.

After wide-spread outrage, Allen’s has finally revealed the new flavour: passionfruit
‘I found out some distressing news last night and just thought I’d throw the information your way,’ Tanya previously revealed in a viral video.
‘You know Allen’s Snakes? The best. Iconic. You know the orange Allen’s Snake – what do you think the flavour is? Orange right?
‘No, the flavour is actually apricot.. What?’
Tanya’s revelation sent social media into a meltdown, with fans grappling with the reality that they’ve been chewing on apricot all these years.
‘Why would you tell me this? I thought orange was my favourite but I hate apricot! how can this be! I’m questioning my entire life,’ one devastated commenter wrote.
‘This changes everything,’ another lamented, while a third said, ‘This means my whole childhood is a lie.
However, Tanya – who is fittingly lead the ultimate taste test in the town of Orange – said she can’t wait for Aussies to try the new passionfruit flavour.
‘After tasting a new flavour, I can’t wait to see what my fellow lolly lovers think and hope they love it as much as I do!’
With the change officially locked in, it’s only a matter of time before Aussies determine if the new flavour will be a crowd-pleaser – or if the orange snake is doomed to remain the runt of the lolly bag.
