CNN host Scott Jennings eviscerated a colleague who accused the right of spreading misinformation about the Los Angeles wildfires.
The network’s right-wing ‘black sheep’ was in conversation with John Avlon when the journalist accused Republicans of pushing disinformation which is preventing a unified response to the crisis.
‘In this environment right now, where immediately there’s disinformation flowing through social media networks that cleaves down partisan lines, that is stopping our ability to be united,’ Avlon said.
‘We should not just accept that as inevitable. That is weakening our ability to unite as a nation and as cities.’
However, Jennings did not accept the characterization and hit back by asking Avlon if the Democrats‘ behavior has been any better.
‘Do you think it was uniting or dividing while in the midst of these fires for the Democrats to go to Sacramento and, in an emergency session, vote to appropriate $50 million to ‘Trump-proof’ California, to sue the Trump administration, which hasn’t even taken office yet?’ he asked.
‘Do you think that was a good priority and a good time to do that, or no? Was that dividing, was that divisive, or was that uniting?’

Jennings hit back at journalist John Avlon after he claimed the right is pushing misinformation for partisan gains
Jennings was referencing the multi-million dollar deal signed by California Governor Gavin Newsom yesterday which is designed to shore up the state’s legal defense against incoming Donald Trump policies.
Around half the money has been earmarked to prevent the mass deportation of illegal immigrants the president-elect has indicated he will enact once he takes office.
The other half is reportedly allocated to suing the incoming administration.
The move has been widely criticized by the GOP, who accused Newsom of being preoccupied with partisan games over dealing with the devastating wildfires.
So far at least 24 people have been killed and more than 12,000 structures have been damaged.
Thousands more have been displaced by the blazes, which began a week ago.
California Senate Budget Committee Chair Scott Wiener defended the administration’s decision.
‘This funding agreement cements California’s readiness to serve as a bulwark against Trump’s extremist agenda,’ Wiener said in a statement obtained by POLITICO.

Newsom has been criticized for focusing on the deal while the wildfires continue to rage
Newsom also attracted criticism after he appeared to try and shunt blame for the sluggish response to the wildfires onto Los Angeles officials.
’I’m the governor of California and want know the answer – I’ve got that question, I can’t tell you, by how many people, “What happened” – on my own team, “What happened?”, Newsom said on Pod Save America. ‘I’ll be candid with you, I wasn’t getting straight answers.’
‘So, for me, when you start getting different answers, then I’m not getting the actual story,’ he added.
The governor’s latest interview came after a California mother went viral when she challenged Mr Newsom for his bumbling response to the Los Angeles fires.
Rachel Darvish told Fox News she was furious with the California Governor after he was left scrambling for a response when she chased him down.
Mr Newsom claimed to be trying to reach President Biden on the phone at the time but said he could not get cell service, which Darvish argued was indicative of his mismanagement of the crisis.
