Michael Jordan has started 2025 in style, flying to Costa Rica on his private jet to compete in a fishing tournament this weekend.
The all-time NBA great is an avid fisherman and his $8million superyacht, called Catch 23, was waiting for him as he arrived earlier in the week for the event.
Footage emerged of the Chicago Bulls hero waving at the crowds as he boarded Catch 23 and as the yacht left the harbor, he even gave his fans a thumbs-up. In the other hand, he was holding one of his cigars.
The three-day fishing competition – the Rockstar Offshore Tournament – ends on January 12 and as of Saturday morning, Catch 23 was sixth in the standings for an event that costs $4,500 just to enter.
Jordan’s yacht is around 80 feet long and can sleep up to 10 guests. He bought it in 2024 and first used it in competition for the Blue Rock Big Marlin event in North Carolina last June.
He’s a man used to traveling in style. The private jet that took him to Costa Rica, a Gulfstream G650ER, is worth around $70million and he reportedly took delivery of that last October.

The 61-year-old Jordan had some good news to celebrate before the holidays as he finally sold his mansion in Chicago that had been on the market for 12 years.
In that time, the six-time NBA champion Jordan was forced to slash the price quite significantly. It went up for $29million in 2012 and was sold in 2024 for $9.5million.
But for a man worth $3.5billion, it’s not too much of a hit.
It emerged on Friday that the new owner of the property is offering $1 million time shares that would allow co-owners one week of access every year.
The buyer of the Highland Park 56,000 square-foot sprawling mansion, John Cooper, purchased the property for $9.5 million in December.
Cooper said in a press release that the shared ownership opportunity is a way to bring sports enthusiasts together and own a piece of history.
‘Our goal is to create a shared experience where co-owners can enjoy unparalleled amenities and also the sense of connection and community that comes with it,’ Cooper said.
‘By preserving the property’s original prestige while integrating modern technology, we’re ensuring that Champions Point continues to be a place where extraordinary memories are made for years to come.’

After buying the property, Cooper teased his big time-share reveal but promised to ‘honor the property’s legacy’.
‘This place is great just the way it is,’ he said at the time.
The property, built in 1995, features nine bedrooms, 19 bathrooms, a cigar room, a library, an indoor gym, a circular infinity pool, a basketball court, a tennis court and the iconic ’23’ gates out front.
