A Democratic lawmaker has come under fire for suggesting that Hispanic voters who support Donald Trump suffer from a ‘slave mentality.’
The shocking remark came from Rep. Jasmine Crockett, a 43-year-old Texas Democrat.
‘That is my distilled summary of what happens within the Latino community,’ Crockett said speaking with Vanity Fair last week.
‘I’ve not run into that with the Asian community. I’ve not run into that with the African community. I’ve not run into that with the Caribbean community. I’ve only run into it with Hispanics. When they think of ‘illegals,’ they think of, you know, maybe people that came out of the cartels.’
The Democrat continued: ‘It almost reminds me of what people would talk about when they would talk about kind of like ‘slave mentality’ and the hate that some slaves would have for themselves.’
‘It’s almost like a slave mentality that they have. It is wild to me when I hear how anti-immigrant they are as immigrants, many of them. I’m talking about people that literally just got here and can barely vote that are having this kind of attitude.’
Reacting to the interview X users ripped Crockett for racism.
‘She is extremely racist. And she doesn’t even try to hide it. She is actually OK with being racist and owns it which is crazy,’ one user wrote.

‘She’s attacking voters based on race and gender while defending failed policies,’ posted another X user.
Another user wrote a lengthy post firmly against Crockett’s interview.
‘Before taking Jasmine’s advice look at her popularity. Very few outside the ultra woke bubble like her. She does Not speak for the vast majority of the US public,’ they wrote. ‘And if what was being pushed was likeable when in affect then democrats would not have failed so miserably and I’m not talking about losing the electoral and popular vote.’
In a statement to DailyMail.com, Crockett said she was speaking ‘candidly’ about ‘the disconnect between different segments of the 2024 electorate.’
‘I used the term ‘slave mentality’ in the way it has commonly been used to refer to Black Americans who support anti-Black politicians and policies,’ the Democrat wrote. ‘I did not use this language with the intention to divide Black and Brown communities.’
In the Vanity Fair piece the Democrat also went on to lambast black male voters, saying some of them were caught ‘flaking’ on Vice President Kamala Harris because of their ‘misogyny.’
‘I will tell you that black people historically have been fiercely loyal. That’s why you still see the [turnout] numbers that you see coming out for black folks, even though there was a bit of flaking. And that bit of flaking came from black men, which I’m going to chalk up to misogyny,’ she said.
Crockett, a former Harris-Walz campaign co-chair, also suggested another demographic fueled Harris’ failure.
She told the outlet that White women ‘retreated’ from Harris, and she said that she does not trust them.
‘I said, I don’t trust White women. I said, I’m just telling you, and I think you need to have conversations with your sisters, because they are the group that failed Hillary Clinton,’ she said.

During a fiery May hearing MTG slammed Crockett’s ‘fake eyelashes’

The Democrat hit back asking a question in reference to MTG’s ‘bleach blonde, bad built butch body’

‘I mean, when you go back and look at the numbers, White women were the ones that failed her. And so in my mind, if they failed Hillary, I don’t know that I can believe that they won’t fail Kamala,’ she continued.
Crockett also critiqued those who slammed President Joe Biden’s bid.
‘Why are y’all tearing President Biden down? Like, do you guys realize that [Republicans are] standing with their man? And y’all were like, ‘get rid of Biden because he had a bad debate.’ Well, when Trump had a bad debate, they never acknowledged it.’
‘[Trump] just said, I’m not doing it no more, because I ain’t getting my a** kicked again,’ she continued.
‘I mean, there is something to be said for just requiring this level of perfection out of non-perfect people, and I think Democrats really need to take a good look at themselves on that issue,’ Crockett said.
The Democrat gained popularity earlier this year after a viral shouting match with Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene – where they exchanged personal insults about each other’s appearances.
During a late night hearing in May, Greene stirred controversy by asking Crockett if she could see properly due to her eyelashes.
‘I think your fake eyelashes are messing up what you’re reading,’ Greene said.
After a yelling match between the Republican, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Crockett and others, the room settled down.
Then Crockett unleashed a salvo. ‘If someone on this committee then starts talking about somebody’s bleach blond, bad-built butch body, that would not be’ against the rules.
Since the dramatic explosion Crockett has seen a notable rise in popularity.
She has since been invited to numerous galas and parties, including The Root 100 2024 Gala in New York City and the EBONY Power 100 Gala in Los Angeles.
